Self assessment tax returns

Your tax return, off your plate.

If you're self-employed, a landlord, a company director, a CIS subcontractor, or you've simply got income HMRC wants a return for, self assessment can feel like a yearly cloud hanging over you. It shouldn't. We prepare and file your return for you, work out exactly what you owe, and tell you in good time — not in a panic on 31 January.

We look after self assessment for people across Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Swadlincote, Coalville, Burton upon Trent and the wider East Midlands. Whether it's your first return or your fifteenth, the deal's the same: a fixed fee agreed upfront, everything explained in plain English, and a real person to call.

Sound familiar?

Self assessment shouldn't be a yearly dread.

If any of these ring true, you're not getting what you should be.

01
You leave it until January
Every year it creeps up, and every year it's a last-minute scramble to find receipts and figures.
02
You're not sure what you can claim
So you either claim nothing and overpay, or guess — and worry HMRC will come asking.
03
You dread hearing from HMRC
A brown envelope lands and your stomach drops — you don't know what it means or what to do.

Common questions

Things people ask us.

How much does a self assessment tax return cost?

A fixed fee, agreed upfront before any work starts — so you'll never get a surprise bill. The exact figure depends on how complex your income is (employment, self-employment, property, dividends, CIS), but most personal returns are straightforward. We'll give you a clear quote after a free 15-minute chat.

Do I need to file a self assessment?

Usually yes if you're self-employed, a company director, a landlord, a CIS subcontractor, earn over £100,000, or have other untaxed income. Not sure? Tell us your situation and we'll tell you straight — no charge for the question.

It's my first time — can you help?

Absolutely, and a lot of our clients are first-timers. We'll register you with HMRC, sort your UTR, tell you exactly what we need, and handle the whole thing. No jargon, no judgement.

What's the deadline, and what if I'm late?

Online returns are due by 31 January for the previous tax year. Miss it and HMRC charges an automatic £100 penalty, with more the longer it runs. We work back from the deadline so yours is filed in good time — and if you're already behind, get in touch and we'll help you get straight.
